4th Grade Georgia O'Keeffe Flowers

In this project 4th graders learned about the artist Georgia O’Keeffe. O’Keeffe is a famous artist who was from Wisconsin.  She grew up here in Wisconsin and then traveled to New York and New Mexico when she was a famous working artist.  She is most famous for her large paintings and chalk drawings of flowers.  She enlarges (makes it large), crops (zooms in and goes off the paper) and abstracts and simplifies (makes it look different then in real life).  Students learned about the different parts of flowers and then looked through many images of flowers and selected one to draw.  They carefully drew their flower then used oil pastels to color their flower.  Students practiced different mixing techniques with oil pastels to create different colors and color values/gradation. When they were done coloring they used water and a paint brush to blend their oil pastels together to create a watercolor wash over their flower. Beautiful Flowers 4th grade
